The Southside Library opened in 2008 within in the Community Center on Highway 77. Due to rapid growth, it was expanded into an adjacent room. In 2013 the entire library was moved to the old Southside High School Lunchroom located at 2138 Highway 77. In 2010 the library added an automated system. Much of the current collection of books and other media have been acquired through grants and from donations by local citizens. In 2015 there were over 13,000 items available to lend.
The collection includes books for all ages, both fiction and non-fiction, special collections of large print editions, and Christian fiction, as well as a growing collection of books for children. There is also a nice assortment of books on CD and DVD movies. In 2012 ebooks were added and in 2013 the library started developing the Capstone Interactive Library for children. Both of these collections can be downloaded using the patron's home computer or handheld device.
The library has three computers for public use. In 2013, wireless connectivity was added for patrons. A reference section is being developed with genealogical materials taking priority. Reference books are used within the library. The library offers twice monthly story time for preschool children. It also periodically offers classes in basic genealogy, summer reading programs for both children and teen/adults and crafting. The library offers free services to citizens of Southside and residents of Etowah County.
