The Southside Police Department is dedicated to providing the highest quality of police service and in being actively responsive to the changing needs of our community and to its citizens. Although the protection of human life and property is our highest priority, we are also committed to preserving the constitutional rights of every citizen and to enforcing the laws of the State of Alabama and of the United States of America.
As members of the Southside Police Department we will demonstrate integrity and honor in all of our actions. We will treat each other with dignity and respect, protecting the rights and well-being of all individuals. We are bound by the highest standards of accountability and are committed to being loyal to the community, the department and its members, and to the standards of our profession.
Welcome, my name is Blake Ragsdale. I currently serve as the Chief of Police for the City of Southside. It is my duty to oversee the operations of the department, and to implement plans to help ensure the safety of the City of Southside, its residents and visitors.
I am a lifelong resident of Southside, and have spent the majority of my career with the Southside Police Department. I began as a reserve officer in 2000 and transitioned to full-time as a patrol officer in 2002.
I have since worked my way through the ranks; from Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain in both the patrol and investigation divisions. In 2020, I was given the privilege of being appointed Chief of Police. The Southside Police Department is a community-oriented organization of eight Patrol Officers, two Investigators, two School Resource Officers, and six Support Personnel dedicated to serving the citizens of our city.
